ASR is owned and operated by Ed Almada. Ed has been dedicated to shoe restoration since 1969. Starting as an apprentice in his teens, Ed worked under the watchful and detailed eye of his father in the family shop: Almada Molded Shoes and Shoe Repair, located in the heart of the Portuguese community in Hartford. The shop was primarily focused on making custom orthopedic shoes. Often shoes were medically prescribed and their creation and repair required exquisite attention to detail to ensure the exact details of the prescription were met. After a time Ed expanded the repair side of the business and became the “go to” repairman for Hiking Boots. Over the years, Ed has accumulated a wealth of knowledge about shoe manufacturers and their processes and calls upon his vast experience working with all types of leather and footwear in order to restore shoes to their original beauty.
Ed still works to achieve his own prescribed perfection and his shop has one of the most extensive arrays of machinery used in the repair business today.
In addition to working on shoes, Ed enjoys the challenge of woodworking, adores dogs and is a proud veteran of the US Army. He resides in West Hartford with his wife Nancy and their Short-haired Fox Terrier, Addie.
“A shoe repair shop without a shine is like a diner without coffee.”
A machine shine is available all day, every day the shop is open. Old-fashioned hand shines are available most days between 10:30 am -2:30 pm. Just ask for Mack!
“Any job worth doing, is worth doing right.”
You can go to another shop and they will take your money and make a “repair” even if it won’t hold up to one wearing. Especially in these economic times, why waste money? At ASR you can be confident that the work is worth the cost.
“Follow the factory plan”
I don’t repair shoes; I restore them. Ensuring heel heights and sole thicknesses are some of the ways I’m able to make your shoes look almost new again.
“Tattered shoe on the last
What stories of the past
Imprinted on the sole
The travels of this soul…”
